PADI INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION

PADI OWSI-164143

I received my PADI Certification as an Open Water Scuba Instructor in 1999 during my year at Thalassa 5* Dive Center, Manado, Indonesia.  Primarily, my dive instruction and guiding was in and around the island of Bunaken.  Bunaken is a unique location due to its unparalleled diversity of life; over 3000 species of fish and 800 species of coral can be found at this one small island.  It is a challenging environment for teaching scuba, because there are only a few sites that do not "drop off" to essentially bottomless depths (600+ meters or more), and moderate to strong currents are commonplace.  Thus, my discretion as an instructor in choosing sites wisely, along with my interpersonal skills (i.e., minimizing student anxiety, properly preparing new divers for such conditions, etc.), were developed more than would have been likely in other places.

I have certified several Open Water and Advanced Open Water divers, taught numerous introductory "Discover Scuba Diving" courses to both adults and children, and assisted with Rescue and Divemaster courses.  I have taught the PADI Open Water course in Indonesian and Japanese, as well as in English (my native tongue), and always enjoy the challenge of teaching in a foreign language.
